For ages 18 months and up

At our Early Intervention Centre, we'll take your child's first steps towards living their best life together, because your first steps make all the difference.

Our Early Intervention therapy weeks help mobile and immobile children with a wide range of neurological and developmental disorders, including dystrophies and rare syndromes.

We're with you on this journey

Finding out that your child has a disability or developmental delays can feel overwhelming, leaving you feeling like you have more questions than answers. You want to give them the best support possible, but it’s often hard to know where to start and what to do.

That’s where we come in. When you join an intensive therapy week in our Early Intervention Centre, you join our Swim Lab International Family. We’re with you on this journey, from tots to teens, empowering you with the knowledge and support you need to help your child overcome their challenges and reach important milestones as they grow.

Parents tell us they hear the word “no” a lot, “no, your child won’t…” or “no, your child can’t…”. Here at Swim Lab International, we don’t automatically take no for an answer. We work with your child’s current challenges and abilities, taking what they can do and building from there to turn that “no” into a “yes”.

At this early age, our therapy weeks focus on more functional movements. We’ll help you to set realistic goals, working through the fundamentals like developing upper body strength if your child hasn’t been able to do any tummy time, or developing gross motor skills such as rolling and reaching.

We’ll also work on some fine motor skills such as grasping, so they can enjoy a little more independence with everyday tasks like holding a drinks bottle.

As your child grows and you continue your journey with us, we can move towards larger milestones such as independent sitting, crawling or moving from sitting to standing, as well as swimming and walking.

Hear from our Swim Lab family

We’ve created a fun, relaxing space specifically for younger children like yours, where we offer creative therapy solutions that feel playful for your child, designed to keep them engaged and wanting to keep going for longer, achieving bigger results.

Aquatic therapy sessions will take place in our hydrotherapy pool, heated to 34°C. The warm water helps your child to relax, so their body responds better, which helps us make even more progress by the end of the week.

The natural buoyancy of the water supports your child, enabling them to move more freely. For children with reduced mobility, gaining some independent movement in the water allows them to explore their environment, in the same way they would through crawling or walking. This helps to build their confidence and gives some amazing sensory feedback, helping them learn how their body moves.

We continue building on this foundation in our soft matted area, right next to the pool. Children this age have a short attention span, so we’ll use a variety of equipment and activities based on what’s working well on the day, as well as what generally motivates your child. Our flexible approach allows us to be far more responsive and adaptable to your child’s needs, whilst still focussing on achieving your end goals.

You’ll have access to changing facilities and a shower exclusively for our use right alongside the pool.

You also have the additional option of including time in our Mini Trexo, a small robotic walker. If your child can’t yet sit, roll or stand, Trexo can help them walk for the first time, using sensory stimulation to help build new neural pathways to support their ongoing development. They’ll also benefit from the physical mobilisation and dynamic stretching, helping to build flexibility, strength and stamina.

Trexo stimulates the whole body, getting the circulation going and engaging the core and back muscles as well as the lower body. Parents also tell us it improves neck position, bowel movements, breathing and sleep patterns.

Benefits of Early Intervention

These early years are a natural window in your child’s life where we see massive brain development. Starting with Early Intervention therapy weeks at this young age not only helps minimise developmental delays but also helps to desensitise him or her to therapy in general. This means they have less resistance to it as they grow older, enabling them to progress much faster and potentially advance their skills further than a child who begins later on.

We’ve intentionally created a peaceful area which isn’t too loud or over-stimulating, which is the ideal environment to introduce your child to intensive therapy weeks if they struggle with sensory processing issues.

Apart from the physical benefits, your child will naturally develop cognitive skills, enhancing their ability to learn and interact with their environment, as well as their social and emotional skills, boosting his or her confidence and their self-esteem.

Early Intervention therapy weeks also boost communication skills, through interactive play and communication-based activities.

We're with you every step of the way, now and in the future.

We’re here to support you as a family, giving you the confidence and advice you need to continue your child’s development at home. Our therapists are happy to answer any questions you have, big or small, during your time with us. As a team, we share our collective knowledge and have a wealth of experience between us.

We’ll give you playful activities to continue using at home that are fun for all the family and can be incorporated into your daily routine.

You’ll also have the chance to meet and connect with other families on a similar journey to your own, and be inspired by other children making progress towards their own goals.

To book your Early Intervention therapy week, simply check the box for “Early Intervention Therapy Week” when you complete your booking details.

Dive into our most commonly asked questions

Yes, absolutely. We work with mobile and immobile children with a wide range of disabilities and developmental disorders, including Cerebral Palsy, dystrophies and rare syndromes.
Our Aquatic therapy sessions are particularly beneficial, with the natural buoyancy of the water supporting your child, allowing them to move in ways which just aren’t possible on dry land. The smaller pool in our Early Intervention is the ideal environment to work on foundational skills for our younger, less mobile children.
We start with your child’s current abilities, however limited they may be, and work on building those step by step to start achieving your goals.

We find out what your child likes and use playful activities, focusing on functional movements rather than working on any specific body part.

So for example, it’s a lot of fun playing around in the water, and we can hide the therapy behind simple playful activities like splashing side to side, which then leads to rolling side to side, which later converts to turning and reaching side to side when seated on dry land, and putting out a hand for supported sitting.

If we’re working on reaching and grasping, we’ll use toys that your child likes to motivate them to keep repeating the movement in a fun way.

Our team are always creating new fun activities to help our children progress to the next level.

Simply choose your dates for your therapy week as usual, and when you fill out your booking details, check the box for an “Early Intervention Therapy Week” near the end of the form.
The pool is 4m by 3m, with varying depths, making it ideal for children with limited mobility to work on basic skills. It’s not a swimming pool; we use it to develop foundational skills before transitioning to our heated outdoor pool later on to continue making even more progress as your child grows.

The indoor facilities and small pool have been added specifically to cater to the needs of our younger children, as the smaller pool is ideal for those with very limited movement.

This allows us to introduce toddlers and less mobile children to our own combination of aquatic and land-based therapy in a quieter, smaller, age-appropriate setting.

It’s the perfect environment to start your intensive therapy journey with us. As your child grows and gains mobility, they’ll transition to our main outdoor pool, which is heated all year round, where they can enjoy more space and improve their skills in an inclusive environment.

We don’t progress to that outdoor pool until your child is ready.

If your child has sensory processing issues, the team may advise starting in our indoor facility, but this will be determined once we have your onboarding form with full information about your child and their specific needs.

We generally take children aged 18 months to 3 years in the Early Intervention Centre. However, the team may also suggest using these facilities if your child struggles with sensory processing issues or has very limited mobility. We’ll determine the best option for your child’s development once we have your onboarding form with information about your their needs and current abilities.

The pool is sanitised with bromine, which is strictly regulated and has no effect on sensitive skin.
Yes, we have a changing table and shower exclusively for our use right alongside the pool.
